Programs and Events

Please keep an eye out for updates to this page as we finalize times and dates. We have some of the same programs/events that were successful last year, some that we’re making even better and adding to what we did last year, and some that are brand new for 2017. Here’s our list to date:

May 13, 9AM-2PM Plant and Bake Sale on the grounds of Chace-Cory House. Those wishing to donate plants (in labeled pot) to the THS for the sale may drop them off in the back of CCH. THS members are encouraged to donate at least one item (plant or baked good) to help the Society. Drop it off at CCH on the Friday before from 4-5:30 or early Saturday morning. And please support us by purchasing something (or donating toward the corn crib restoration)!

June 4, 2-4:30 PM Chace-Cory House Season Opening. Come one, come all and help us open this season at CCH with colonial spirit!

July 4, 9AM Annual Public Reading of the Declaration of Independence by the WWI Doughboy statue at Stone Bridge. There will be a limited number of copies available to read from, so feel free to bring your own. This typically takes less than a half hour, so you’ll have plenty of time to celebrate the rest of the day!

September 16, 11:30 AM Barton Raid on General Prescott Commemoration. 2017 marks the 240th year of the capture of British General Prescott by Lt. Colonel William Barton, so we are planning a special 30-minute slide presentation on this to commemorate this event.

September 16, 12-3 PM Membership Day in Chace-Cory House and grounds. THS members will see five items on display that the Society owns that are usually locked away for safety’s sake: a large “Miss Rhody” painting, a bureau with secret drawers, a whaling lance, a late 1800’s map of Tiverton, and an architectural rendering of the Columbia, owned by Captain Robert Gray, with his tea cup. Our season closing day will be a special one just for members! If you’d like to join THS, you’re invited, too!

September 16, 11-3 PM Colonial Day: Crafts & Games on the grounds of Chace-Cory House. Come find out what colonial life was all about! Visit demonstrations and exhibits dealing with woodworking, antique clocks, rug braiding, Alpaca yarn, and more from local artisans. Children of all ages can make colonial crafts and games to take home. Come one, come all and help us close this season at CCH with colonial spirit! Food & drink will be available for purchase.

October 14, 6 PM Speakeasy at Tiverton Rod & Gun Club
Celebrate the Roaring Twenties with us in true Tiverton rum-running fashion! (Costumes optional) Dinner, music, and some surprises are in store for you. Tickets will be on sale at our events this year and at Nanaquaket Nurseries (Manchester’s Landscaping) on Main Road. Tickets are $30 each or $50 per couple. No children, please. This is our major fundraiser for the year, so be prepared for raffles and fun!

November 11, 11 AM Veterans Day Ceremony at the WWI Doughboy statue at the Stone Bridge by Grinnell’s Beach. Please show your support to our veterans keeping our freedom alive and well!

November 14, 7 PM THS Annual Meeting & Dessert Social at the Chace-Cory House. All are invited to bring your favorite dessert to share, become a member or renew your membership, vote on the 2018 Officer and BOD slate, and find out about plans for 2018 events and programs.

December 9 & 10, Saturday 10 AM-4 PM, Sunday 12-4 PM Christmas Open House at the Chace-Cory House. Hot apple cider greets visitors shopping for Christmas decor and baked goods, historical ornaments, classic jellies, mugs, local history books, baked goodies, vintage decor and gifts. Our shop will also be open for other gifts.

September 23, 10 AM-4 PM A Country Day at Pardon Gray booth: “Can You Find It?” historical photo scavenger hunt (we have two for you to do!) at Pardon Gray Preserve on Main Road. Raindate September 24.

October 9, 1-4 PM Cider Social booth at the Wilbur House in Little Compton: We’ll have some of our delicious jams & jellies for sale, as well as other gifts for you to purchase and give to others – or to keep for yourself.

December 3, 1-7 PM Tree Spree at the Wilbur-McMahon School in Little Compton. THS has a tree with items that you can win. We also have a vendor table where you can purchase our classic jams & jellies, our annual calendar, historic books, and other items.
